This photo was a find! Mr. Maione, one of the many old time Italian residents of Lavallette, ran this little deli on the NE corner of Reese Ave. and Grand Central (Rt 35N). I have very fond memories of walking up here and getting a big hunk of fresh mozarella and eating the whole thing before getting back to the house. If only you could save smells like a photograph! Maione's is now home to a crummy yuppie sunglass store, and the infamous Beach Bum bagels. To the left is the old Lavallette movie theatre, already being renovated into something else. I saw "A View To A Kill" in that theater in 1985, and distinctly remember the film breaking halfway through the movie and people booing the projectionist! Ah, to be 8 years old forever. Kodak 5062PX black and white film developed in the basement.
